10-time world champion Baltimore Blast invade RP Funding Center Saturday

by Brian Ackley

LAKELAND, Fla. – If the Florida Tropics are to extend their current team-best four-game win streak, they'll have to do it against one of the best in the Major Arena Soccer League this Saturday at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.

The Baltimore Blast will be in town for a 5:05 p.m. start. Baltimore has 10 championships since first introducing the sport to the Charm City for the 1980-81 Major Indoor Soccer League season. Baltimore has field a pro indoor soccer team ever since, and this is their 39th season of play. While Milwaukee is the defending league champions, the Blast won the three MASL crowns prior to that (2016, 2017, 2018). Their first title came in 1983-84.

Florida comes in at 4-0, one of only two undefeated teams in the league, and atop the Eastern Conference standings. Newcomer Ricardo Carvalho – ninth in the MASL in goals last season – is the Tropics leading scorer so far this season with five goals and five assists, good for 5th overall in the league this year in total points.

Veteran Vini Dantas is pacing the Baltimore attack, with nine goals and three assists, including a five goal outburst in a 14-5 home win against Orlando, who Florida has defeated in three of their first four starts. The fourth win was an epic OT triumph on the road against the champion Wave.

Tickets are available at fltropics.com, two-hours prior to kickoff at the RP Funding Center box office or by calling 863-240-0101. The game will be broadcast live on WTTA-TV, Great 38 out of Tampa, and online at masl.tv.
