Captain Victor Parreiras named MASL Offensive Player of the Month for January
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Florida Tropics all-time leading scorer has another honor to add to his resume.
Collecting 25 points in seven games – all wins – Captain Victor Parrieras has been named the Major Arena Soccer League’s Player of the Month for January. It is the first time in the six-year history of the team that a Tropics player has been so honored.
Parreiras scored 13 goals and added 12 assists to lead Florida to a 10-1 start to the season, atop the MASL’s Eastern Division. He is currently second overall in total points in the league with 29.
“We’ve known for a long time how great a player Victor is, and now the rest of the league is fully recognizing his elite status among the best players in the MASL,” Coach Clay Roberts said. “Our string of success over the past few years begins with Victor. His play on the floor and leadership off it are the cornerstones of the team. He is a more than legitimate MVP candidate, and takes a back seat to no one on or off the field.”
Parreiras has twice been a MASL All-Second team selection, and is the team’s all-time leading goal scorer with 84, assists with 72 and total points with 156 in 108 games played for Florida. He has also been something of a team "iron man", dressing for 108 of 112 games in his Tropics career.
The Tropics will be back in action Saturday night in Dallas (8:05 p.m. EST) when they take on the sidekicks, and continue their road streak with away games at Baltimore and Harrisburg on Feb. 26 and 27. They will next be home on Sunday, March 13 when they host the Tacoma Stars. All games are broadcast live on the MASL’s YouTube channel.
This year, Tropics fans can take advantage of the “Tropics Blitz” that will provide free general admission tickets to many of the 200 level seats at the RP Funding Center for the entire 2021-22 season thanks to the team’s sponsor as a thank-you for five years of support, and as a way of providing a great evening of family entertainment for parents and kids who have had their activities curtailed because of the ongoing pandemic. Vehicles with two or more persons will pay $20 to park, and then be able to take their parking receipt to the RP Funding Center box office for the same number of free tickets as occupants in the vehicle. Single occupant vehicles will pay just $10 for parking.
