Clay Roberts honored as Major Arena Soccer League Coach-of-the-Week

by Brian Ackley

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Major Arena Soccer League is taking notice of the Florida Tropics hot start.

Clay Roberts has been named the MASL's Week Five Coach-of-the-Week following the Tropics 5-0 start to the 2019-20 season, which included a dominating 7-2 win over the Baltimore Blast last Saturday at the RP Funding Center.

It is the best start in team history, and Florida is one of just two undefeated teams remaining in the 17-team MASL.  The 5-0 start has the Tropics atop the nine-team Eastern Conference table.

IN addition to Roberts, three Florida players earned Honorable Mention All MASL  for Week Five, including goalkeeper Brett Petricek, who is 2-0 with a 2.50 goals against average in two starts, and Gordy Gurson and Lucio Gonzaga who each scored twice in the triumph over the Blast.

The  Tropics will rematch with the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave Saturday at 5:05 p.m.  at the RP Funding Center. The Tropics defeated Milwaukee 5-4 in overtime in the Wave's home opener back on Dec. 7.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on Tampa's Great 38, WTTA-TV, as well as online at www.masl.tv. For more information, including ticket information, visit www.fltropics.com, or call 863-240-0101.
