Diegues, Parreiras combine to lead Tropics SC to sixth straight triumph

by Brian Ackley

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Tropics SC remained undefeated Saturday night as they toppled the GOSA Spurs, 2-1, in a United Premier Soccer League game at Lake Myrtle Sports Park.

It was the Tropics SC smallest margin of victory this spring, and first time they have given up a goal this season. That came on a penalty kick in the 74th minute by Lionel Nomer.

Victor Parreiras netted his third of the season at the 10 minute mark, and Ricardo Diegues banged home his team-leading 10th of the year in the 64th minute to provide the margin of victory. Hugo Silva picked up the win in goal.

The win kept the Tropics SC on top of the UPSL's Pro Premier Florida Central West Division with a 6-0-0 mark. The Spurs, who play in the Florida Central East division, dropped to 2-2-3, good for fourth place. Should the Tropics make the post season, they would matchup initially with a team from the Central East division in June.

The Tropics SC will be on the road for only the second time this year when they travel to take on the Jacksonville Armada Academy FC on Mother's Day, May 12, before returning to Lake Myrtle Sports Complex to host Leg A-Z Soccer International-- who lead the Central East division – on Friday, May 17.

The Tropics SC are one of two outdoor teams that play locally during the summer months; the other is the Lakeland Tropics who play in USL League Two at Bryant Stadium in Lakeland, and are now in their third season. The goal of both teams is to create a pool of players for the ultimate goal of one fully professional Division III level team in the coming seasons. The Lakeland Tropics open their regular season on Saturday, May 11 against Daytona FC.
