Early season showdown is for first place as Tropics host Dragon City FC Sunday

AUBURNDALE, Fla. –  There’s an early season showdown brewing in the United Premier Soccer League’s Florida West division Sunday when the Florida Tropic, presented by Bond Clinic, host Dragon City FC in a 6 p.m. start.

Both teams sit atop the division standings with perfect 2-0 starts to the 12-game regular season schedule. The Tropics come in with wins over PSE Conquistadores and Winter Haven United, while Sarasota based Dragon City has triumphs over Sporting Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg Aztecs.

Newcomer Kewin Duque leads the Tropics with three goals. In his senior season at Freedom High School in Orlando, he notched 12 goals and 13 assists. Victor Parreiras – the UPSL national MVP in Spring 2019 – has scored once in each win. Jorge Navarette has picked up both wins in goal.

Admission to Saturday’s game is free. There is a $10 parking fee for single occupant vehicles and $20 for multi-occupant vehicles.

This is the third of five consecutive home matches for the Tropics, who will host the Conquistadores in a 6 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 18. For fans unable to support their side in person, all games are streamed live on the Tropics Youtube channel.

The Tropics will play a 12-game fall season and are the defending 2019 Spring UPSL national champions. Because of the ongoing pandemic, the UPSL did not play a spring season this year. Florida will also start its fifth season playing indoors in the Major Arena Soccer League this winter at the RP Funding Center.
