Eyang, Boateng pace Tropics to big win in United Premier Soccer League opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Florida Tropics got their third season of outdoor play in the United Premier Soccer League started with a bang Sunday night, defeating Tampa FC 7-1 at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale.

William Eyang and Melvin Boatang each had two first-half goals to give Florida a 4-0 lead at intermission. Eyang completed his hat trick in the second half, and the Tropics got single goals from Corey Mills and Rayan Lammers.

Starting netminder Jorge Ortiz lost his shutout bid in the closing minutes when Tampa FC was awarded and converted  on a penalty kick.

The UPSL Tropics, presented by Bond Clinic, will play a 12-game regular season scheduled in the UPSL’s Florida West Division of the Southeastern Conference.

Admission to all UPSL home games as free for all fans. There is a parking charge of $10 for single-occupant cars and $20 for vehicles with two or more occupants. 

The Tropics will be on the road next Saturday, March 27, when they meet Florida Premier FC at the Tarpon Springs Sports Complex, before returning to Lake Myrtle on Saturday, March 27 to hold Polk County rival Winter Haven United in a 7 p.m. start.  R

The Tropics field teams in both the UPSL and Major Arena Soccer League. The MASL Tropics recently cliched its first regular season indoor soccer title, and will advance to the league’s semi-finals the first weekend of April in Kansas City against an opponent that is still to be determined.
