Four unanswered goals in second and third lift St. Louis to 7-5 triumph over Tropics
ST CHARLES, Missouri -- Four unanswered goals in the second and third quarters were too much for the Florida Tropics to overcome Saturday night as they fell to the St. Louis Ambush, 7-5, in a Major Arena Soccer League game.
The Tropics led 2-1 before falling behind 5-2. They battled back with three sixth-attacker goals to pull within a goal, but could not find the equalizer. Florida, who fell to 7-6-2 (overtime losses), outshot St. Louis (5-8-1) by a 30-25 margin.
Vini Dantas scored twice for Florida, while Drew Ruggles, Rafa Araujo, and Julio Varela had one each for the Tropics while William Eskay had the hat trick for St. Louis.
Florida will be home against Kansas City on Feb. 19 and again on Feb. 26 against the Tacoma Stars.
The Tropics and Comets are tied with 23 points, good for second place presently in the very tight East Division. Both have played 15 games, and have nine regular season games left. Milwaukee leads with 27 points, with two games in hand over Florida and KC. Baltimore is in fourth with 22 points, with a game in hand on the two teams as well.
