Go time! Tropics kickoff 2021-22 home MASL season with visit by Ontario Fury this weekend
LAKELAND, Fla – The Florida Tropics will look to remain undefeated in home openers in the Major Arena Soccer League when they host the Ontario Fury Saturday night at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland.
The Tropics – presented by Bond Clinic – are a perfect 5-0 when opening the home portion of their schedule since joining the MASL in 2016. After a win Dec. 4 in Baltimore, the Tropics are 6-0 lifetime in season-opening games.
Florida followed that win against the Blast with an impressive 7-1 win at Utica City FC a day later to leave the Tropics atop the Eastern Division with a 2-0 record. Ontario opened its season at home Wednesday with a 6-3 triumph over the Chihuahua Savage.
Local fans can score free general admission to this and all 12 of the team’s home games this winter thanks to its sponsors who are presenting the “Tropics Blitz”.
The “Tropics Blitz” will provide free general admission tickets as a way of providing a great evening of family entertainment for parents and kids who have had their activities curtailed because of the ongoing pandemic. Vehicles with two or more persons will pay $20 to park, and then be able to take their parking receipt to the RP Funding Center box office for the same number of free tickets to that day’s game as occupants in the vehicle. Single occupant vehicles will pay just $10 for parking.
Zach Reget leads the Tropics in scoring with four goals in two games, including a hat trick against the Blast. Hugo Silva leads the league in goals against average (2.50) and saves percentage (.881) after its two road wins. Franck Tayou and Justin Stinson lead the Fury with two goals each.
The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon in Lakeland. After taking a break for the Christmas holiday, Florida is back on the field Sunday, Jan. 2 against Utica City FC, who will also be the opponent on Sunday, Jan. 9. Kickoff for Sunday games are scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
