Moojen cited as All MASL team honorable mention pick

by Brian Ackley

Florida Tropics SC forward and assistant coach Freddy Moojen has been named as an honorable mention for the All Major Arena Soccer League Team for weeks nine and 10.

Moojen was cited for his play against Kansas City, where he was named the game's second star, as the Tropics surprised the host Comets on Dec. 30, 8-7.

His goal from deep in the left corner – a bomb right underneath the cross bar – put the Tropics ahead 5-4 with just over a minute to go in the third quarter. He also threaded the needle on a restart goal from the top of the penalty arc to assist on one of Ricardo Diegues' three scores on the night.

Moojen is the fourth Tropics player to be so honored this year. Victor Rojas was an all-team selection in week three for his two-goal effort when Florida won its first-ever game, 6-5 over San Diego. Diegues earned honorable mention status that same week, also scoring twice in the win over the Sockers, and goaltender Piotr Sliwa was an honorable mention pick in week six for his big effort in a loss at Baltimore.

The Tropics will start at seven-game homestand Friday night when they host the Dallas Sidekicks at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are available at www.fltropics.com, or by calling 863-333-5353. Three game tickets for $20, which includes Friday night's contest and two additional games of your choice, are available by calling the Tropics' office.
