Parreiras nets pair as Tropics SC win second straight
LAKELAND, FL – Victor Parreiras had two goals, and Piotr Sliwa came up with 18 saves as the Florida Tropics put together their first ever winning streak, defeating the St. Louis Ambush Friday night 4-3.
Parreiras' first goal was one of the most spectacular of the season, a bicycle kick with just four-tenths of a second left in the first quarter. His second goal cut it even closer as he scored on a restart with two-tenths of a second left in the third quarter to give Florida a 3-1 lead. The Tropics lead 2-0 at intermission, before a crowd of 3,575.
Florida's other scores came from Robbie Aristodemo in the final period, his second since joining the team four games ago and his first game winner of the season, and Rapha Nascimento. For Sliwa, his 18 stops were a season best.
The game Ambush continued to battle, and cut the lead to 4-3 with just 91 seconds left when Kentaro Takada scored, but St. Louis could not get the equalizer. They also got goals from Lucas Almeida and Victor France.
The Tropics defeated Dallas, 8-6, last Friday to create what is now a two-game winning streak, and going back to Dec. 30 when they won in Kansas City, now have triumphed in three of their last four starts. They will look to make it three in a row Sunday when they rematch with the Ambush at the Lakeland Center in a 5:35 EST start.
The Tropics will remain at home for their next four games after Sunday, starting with a Jan. 27 date against the Kansas City Comets. Tickets for all games are available at www.fltropics.com, or by calling 863-333-5353. All Tropics game are broadcast free of charge at www.masl.tv.
