Parreiras, Silva lead Tropics SC to 2-0 triumph in battle of first-place teams
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – In a battle of first place teams, the Tropics SC got goals from Xavier Silva and Victor Parreiras to take a 2-0 win over Leg A-Z International Friday night at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
The Tropics improved to 8-0-0 on the season, opening a seven point lead in the United Premier Soccer League's Pro Premier Florida Central West division while Leg A-Z fell to 5-2-1, still in first in the Florida Central East table.
Silva scored his fifth of the season in the 32nd minute after having an goal much earlier in the half negated by an offside call. Parreiras scored with about 10 minutes to go on a perfect strike from near the top of the box to provide a little breathing room. It was his sixth of the season.
The Tropics SC will be back on the road May 26 for a matchup against Huracan FC at the Oldsmar Sports Complex before returning to home to start a final push to the post-season when they host OFC Barca on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The Tropics soccer club currently fields two outdoor teams in the summer months, with the goal of creating a larger talent pool for the club's hoped-for move up to the Division III level in the coming seasons. Tropics SC plays at Lake Myrtle in Auburndale in the UPSL, while the Lakeland Tropics are now in their third season of play at historic Bryant Stadium in USL League Two.
