Parreiras, Tavernese get hat tricks as first-place Tropics roll past Orlando, 16-3

LAKELAND, Fla. –  Ricardo Carvalho, Gordy Gurson, and Victor Parreiras all had five-point games when the Florida Tropics set a team record for most goals in a home win as they trampled the Orlando SeaWolves, 16-3, in a Major Arena Soccer League game Sunday at the RP Funding Center.

Parreiras and Joey Tavernese had hat tricks. Carvalho had two goals and three assists, and Gurson had five assists. Antonio Manfut had two goals and two assists, while Guilherme, Zach Reget and Matt Clare had two goals each as Florida exploded for nine goals in the final two quarters after taking a 7-2 lead to intermission.

The Tropics, who improved to 9-1 and are two games ahead of the rest of the Eastern Conference, fell just a goal short of tying a team record for most goals in a win, but did tie a team record for largest margin of victory. The Tropics defeated the Rochester Lancers 17-4 earlier this month in Rochester to set the club mark for most goals in a game.

Orlando, which got goals from Luis Mota (two) and Eduardo Cruz, falls to 1-8

The Tropics will stay at home for a matchup against the St. Louis Ambush this Saturday, Jan. 25, for a 5:05 p.m. start at the RP Funding Center.
