St. Pete Aztecs net two in final 10 minutes to forge 2-2 in USPL showdown vs. Tropics
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – TTwo goals in the final 10 minutes, including one on a penalty kick and the equalizer in the first minute of stoppage time, left the Florida Tropics and St. Petersburg Aztecs battling to a 2-2 tie Saturday night in a United Premier Soccer League game at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
The Tropics played without the leading scorer in the UPSL, William Eyang. The team found out just hours before kickoff that Eyang had to return to his native Cameroon to tend to a family matter. Eyang leads all UPSL scorers in the Premier Division with 10 goals in four games. He had scored seven of his team’s last eight goals before Saturday.
But Bruno Enrique – fresh off being named to the Major Arena Soccer League’s All Rookie team – found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, and Boateng converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to complete all the Florida scoring. It was the third of the season for Boateng.
The visiting Aztecs, the lone unbeaten team in the UPSL's Florida West division, converted late to forge a tie, and improve to 2-0-1 on the year. The Tropics moved to 3-1-1
