St. Petersburg Aztecs drop UPSL Tropics 2-0 in rematch
The Florida Tropics , Presented by Bond Clinic, couldn’t pull off back-to-back wins over the St. Petersburg Aztecs as the host Aztecs took a 2-0 win Thursday night in United Premier Soccer League Florida West division play.
It was the second time in five days the two sides matched up against each other, with the Tropics taking a 2-1 win last Saturday at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale.
It was the second time this season Florida wasn’t able to find the back of the net. The Tropics were also shut out by first-place Dragon City FC by the same 2-0 scorer earlier in the UPSL Fall 2020 season.
With the loss, Florida falls to 7-3-0 on the season, with one regular season game still be played next weekend on the road against the Sporing Tampa Bay FC. The Aztecs improved to 5-4-0 on the fall. A postponed home game against Huracan FC has not yet been rescheduled.
The Tropics are the defending 2019 UPSL Spring national champions. There was no 2020 spring season because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The indoor team will start its fifth season in the Major Arena Soccer League with a home doubleheader weekend Jan. 2 and 3 when the St. Louis Ambush come to town to commence the 2020-21 campaign.
