Tropics eyeing third straight win with visit to rival Winter Haven United Saturday
AUBURNDALE, Florida -- The Florida Tropic hope to build their longest winning streak of the season Saturday night when they make the short trip to take on their local rival Winter Haven United in a United Premier Soccer League Florida West showdown.
Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. at Feltrim Sports Complex 204 Macaulay Grove, in Haines City.
Florida snagged a 2-1 revenge win over Florida Premier in Auburndale last Saturday, with Drew Ruggles and Will Eyang scoring to help the Tropics improve to 5-2-1 overall, good for 16 points. They are tied with the St. Petersburg Aztecs with 16 points, although the Aztecs have played two fewer games.
St. Petersburg --- winners of three straight -- defeated Winter Haven 4-1 last weekend to break a two-game win streak for the United, who are 2-3-1.
Eyang continues to be among the leaders nationally in the UPSL with 12 goals so far this season, despite missing two games. And as a team, the Tropics are tied for third in the country for most goals scored overall with 28.
