LAKELAND, Fla. – A late four-quarter rally which sent the game into overtime was for naught as the Syracuse Silver Knights defeated the Florida Tropics. 10-9, Saturday night on SYKES Field at the RP Funding Center.

Trailing 9-6, Florida went to a sixth attacker and got two goals from Mauricio Salles and one from Freddy Moojen in the final three and a half minutes to force overtime, the first time Florida has ever played an extra period.

However, Kenardo Forbes scored just 1:26 into the OT for the game winner, his third of the night. Salles and Moojen each scored three for the Tropics, who fell to 6-5. Syracuse improved to 5-4, leaving the teams in a virtual ties for second place in the eastern division.

In a game of great ebbs and flows, Florida built an early 4-1 edge, and led 6-5 in the third quarter before Syracuse scored four straight to build a 9-6 advantage.

The Tropics outshot the Silver Knights, 34-30.

Florida will stay at home for a rematch with the St. Louis Ambush Friday, Jan. 12, with a 7:35 kickoff, followed by a visit from the Kansas City Comets on Jan. 20.
