Tropics SC make history with first-ever playoff win, 3-0 over GOSA Spurs
AUBURNDALE -- The Tropics SC got two goals from leading scorer Xavier Silva, and advanced to the second round of the United Premier Soccer League playoffs Wednesday night with a 3-0 win over Great Orlando Soccer Academy.
Silva scored in each half, and Keisuke Ohata added an insurance marker late as the Tropics won for the 12th straight time this season, and have outscored their opponents on the year by a margin of 40-4. Hugo Silva got the clean sheet in goal.
The Tropics just missed on several other good chances. Spurs goalkeeper Adam Perito made a spectacular stop on Silva in the second half, denying him a hat trick, and Victgor Parreiras sent a header from right in front just inches over the crossbar very late in the first half.
The Tropics SC will host a second-round playoff game at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Sporting Orlando. For ticket information, visit www.fltropics.com or phone 863-240-0101.
