Tropics SC players dominate UPSL Best XI post-season all star squad
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – After winning the United Premier Soccer League's national championship in late July, it's no surprise that the Tropics SC dominated the league's post-season honors, including five players named as part of the league's Best XI.
Earning first-team all star honors are forward Ricardo Diegues, midfielders Victor Parreiras and Pascal Millien, defender Lucas Montelares and goalkeeper Hugo Silva.
The team completed an 18-0-0 regular season with a dramatic comeback in the UPSL national title game. Down 2-0 with less than 10 minutes to play, the Tropics got a goal in the 83rd minute from Keisuke Ohata before Parreiras tied it in stoppage time. The Tropics went on to win the championship on PK's, with Montelares – the team's captain who scored the game winner in the dying seconds of overtimes in the national semi-finals win – also converting the winning penalty kick.
Parreiras, Montelares, Silva and Tropics SC Coach Lucas Teixeira will all dress for the Florida Tropics of the Major Arena Soccer League who will start their fourth season in the Major Arena Soccer League at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland late this fall.
Midfielder Melvin Boetang was named to the UPSL second-team Best XI as a midfielder. He scored the tying goal in the national quarterfinal game, helping the Tropics rally from their first deficit of the entire season.
