Tropics set to showdown with iconic Milwaukee Bavarians in UPSL National Final Four
WEATHERFORD, Texas – The Tropics SC – the only undefeated team remaining as the UPSL hosts its national championship tournament – will take on one of the most decorated clubs in the country Saturday when they meet the Milwaukee Bavarians SC.
The Bavarians are the defending UPSL champions, and also won the national men's amateur championship last year, earning them a spot in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Saturday's game starts at 3 p.m. Central time (4 p.m. Eastern) and will be streamed live at www.mycujoo.tv.
Bavarian SC (9-1-1) claimed its second consecutive UPSL Midwest Conference title this season. The famous Milwaukee based club – which dates all the way back to 1929 – defeated Joliet United SC, 3-1, in the Midwest Conference Final, then beat Mass United FC, 5-1, on Sunday, July 21, in a UPSL National Quarterfinal.
Auburndale based Tropics SC (16-0-0) is the UPSL Southeast Conference champion after beating Boca Raton FC, 3-1, to win the Florida Division, and traveling to Savannah, Ga., to defeat World Class Premier Elite, 2-1, in the conference final on Saturday, July 13.
UPSL Mountain Conference champion Utah Murcielagos (15-2-3) takes on Southwest Conference winner Southwest FC (9-1-1)in the first semifinal round game at 12 p.m. CT at Kangaroo Stadium. The UPSL championship follows on Sunday, July 28, with an 11 a.m. kickoff local time (12 noon Eastern).
“These four clubs are the best of the UPSL and the American game. They all represent their respective divisions as playoff champions, and then have gone on to win games against extremely tough competition in the UPSL National Quarterfinals,” Commissioner Yan Skwara said. “Now they'll take to the turf at Kangaroo Stadium – one of the finest facilities the UPSL Central Conference has to offer – for a chance to go home with a $10,000 check as UPSL National Champions. We wish all four clubs the best of luck this weekend."
The Tropics are ranked No. 7 in this week's Top 25 poll of UPSL, USL League Two and NPSL teams as picked by the Grassroots Soccer Media Union, highest of any UPSL team. The Bavarians are ranked at No. 19. The teams are ranked No. 1 (Tropics) and No. 2 by the website UPSL Soccer Hub in its July 16 poll.
