Tropics Sign Brazilians Maycon França and Lucas Montelares

by Andrew Haines

Lakeland, FL – Florida Tropics CEO and Owner Andrew Haines announced the signing of two new players this afternoon. Maycon França and Lucas Montelares will be joining Anthony Arico, Piotr Sliwa and Freddy Moojen on the roster for the Tropics inaugural season. França and Montelares are both Brazilian-born players and are expected to strengthen the roster at the forward and defensive positions.

“These two players are great signings for the Club. They both bring experience at a high level of play that will help provide strength and depth to our roster. They are young players with a very bright future, and have a strong skill set that will transition well to the indoor game. I look forward to seeing the two of them in action come November,” said Head Coach Clay Roberts.

Maycon França, 23, was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has established his young career as a striker, winning awards such as the São Paulo federation Gold Shoe in 2010 (best player of the year) and the Silver Ball as top scorer of the São Paulo federation in 2011. He has played for the likes of Brazilian powerhouse academy Santos Football Club, and also has futsal experience with well-known Brazilian sides Gremetal and Jacarei. França’s most recent club was Camboriú Futebol Club, who compete in the Brazilian minor league.

Lucas Montelares, 25, also plays for Camboriú Futebol Club in Brazil. Montelares has an impressive resume, with time spent at Brazilian Serie A clubs Internacional and Corinthians. Montelares has also spent time in the Brazilian minor league with teams like Icasa, Pato Branco, CAD Diadema and Rio Branco. At just over 6 foot and 185 pounds, Montelares adds much needed size and strength to the Tropics’ back line.

“It is our goal to be competitive right from the start. We want to win a championship in year one. I believe by bringing on young talented players like Franca and Montelares, we stand a chance in what will be a very competitive league. I plan on signing more talented international players, along with former pro indoor veterans, in the hopes that we have a very successful inaugural season,” said Haines.
