LAKELAND, Fla. – Coming off his best indoor season ever, the Florida Tropics Presented by Bond Clinic have signed former Kansas City Comets midfielder Kiel Williams to a two-year contract. Per league and team policies, no further details of the deal were disclosed.

In 19 games last season, the veteran tallied 15 goals, including multiple goal games against the Milwaukee Wave, Ontario Fury and Orlando SeaWolves, while totaling 11 assists as KC’s second leading scorer.  He also had a career-best 10 blocked shots last year.  He scored a career-high five goals in a game two years ago against the St. Louis Ambush.

“Kiel is just hitting his stride as a true offensive threat in this league,” Coach Clay Roberts said. “He’s versatile, athletic, hard working and skilled, and will fit into our lineup perfectly as a well-rounded player that can contribute meaningfully at both ends of the floor.”

For his indoor career, Williams has 37 goals in 57 games to go along with 25 assists.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, he played collegiately at Park University in Kansas, earning first-team all-conference honors his senior year with six goals and nine assists. He started his professional indoor career during the 2014-15 season with the Missouri Comets.

The Tropics are the defending Eastern Conference Champions of the Major Arena Soccer League, which halted its season in mid-March due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Florida was 18-3 at the time, an amazing turnaround from the 2018-19 season when the team was just 6-18.

The Tropics will start their fifth season in the Major Arena Soccer League late this fall or early winter at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. For more information, visit fltropics.com or call 863-240-0101.
