Tropics Victor Parreiras named UPSL National Championship tournament MVP
Victor Parreiras has been selected MVP of the 2019 UPSL Spring Season National Championship.
Parreiras scored the game-tying goal in the 91st minute and also tallied in the shootout as Florida Tropics SC defeated Utah Murcielagos, 2-2 (5-4), in the USPL National Final at Kangaroo Stadium in Weatherford, Texas.
"I had to do it. We were running out of time so I worked to find and opening and (shrugs)," said Parreiras of his stoppage time goal which sent the game into overtime.
After two scoreless overtime periods the game was decided by a shootout, with Parreiras stepping up first for Tropics SC and hammering it into the back of the net to give his team a definitive lead on its way to completing an unbeaten 18-0-0 season.
"Victor is one of the greatest players in the history of this club. I can't say enough about what he does for this team on the field," Tropics SC General Manager Andrew Ross said.
Parreiras has been with Tropics SC since the club's inception in 2016 in the Major Arena Soccer League, and will enter the team's fourth season at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland late this fall as the team's active leading all-time scorer. In his first three years, the UT-Brownsville graduate has 44 goals and 31 assists. The Tropics will start their fourth season in the MASL late this fall.
