UPSL Tropics look to find some scoring in hosting league leading Leg A-Z Saturday
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Weather permitting, the United Premier Soccer League Florida Tropics will look to find its offense and get back on a winning track Saturday when they host Leg A-Z International.
Because Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale is unavailable this weekend, the game will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday at Fletcher Park at Lake Bonny, 800 U.S. 98 South, Lakeland. The game will be streamed live on Eleven Sports BROADCAST LINK HERE.
The Tropics are coming off their first shut out loss of the season, 2-0 at home last Sunday afternoon in blazing heat against the Azzurri Storm. It dropped the Tropics to 2-2-2 in their 10-game regular season, tied for fourth overall in the eight-team UPSL Premier Florida West division with the St. Petersburg Aztecs. Both teams have eight points.
Leg A-Z holds the top spot with a record of 4-1-1, but are winless in their last two, coming off a tie against Florida Premier last weekend.
The Tropics will get a continued boost from several stars from their Major Arena Soccer League championship-series team who joined the UPSL side last weekend, including First Team All MASL selection Victor Parreiras.
Parreiras played in the second half last Sunday, and the offense had noticeably more chances to score, but missed on several close calls. The best came on a Parreiras corner kick which was headed just wide at the back post by another MASL standout, Lucas Montelares, who played the entire 90 minutes. Ricardinho and Ben Espinal also suited up for the UPSL team last week after playing for the MASL Tropics this past winter.
The Tropics are scheduled to be on the road May 28 against Lakeland United. However, no location or time has yet been announced for that matchup.
